Why is pachymetry done as part of the glaucoma evaluation?

In glaucoma, it is known that thick corneas overestimate intraocular pressure while thin corneas underestimate IOP. Using corneal thickness-related algorithms, glaucoma specialists readjust these intraocular pressure values to get a more accurate and reliable value.  We can therefore avoid not diagnosing patients with glaucoma due to falsely low intraocular pressure values or labelling normal patients with apparently high IOP as glaucomatous.
